After diving in and starting this blog, I needed a brief moment of being unplugged. As I’ve mentioned previously, I’m a teacher. Oh how I love them…but I almost thought conference week, or more specifically pre-conference week, would be the death of me. I even developed a stress-related eye twitch. Whaaaat?! Here’s basically what my week consisted of: sleep, eat, work, work, work, eat, sleep, repeat. Dallin (my future hubs in case you’re just reading) even told me he was shocked I hadn’t watched anymore of Scandal (we’re re-binge watching on Netflix). Maybe that tells me I’m too much of a TV addict anyway…oops. On top of everything else, my 5th graders were corrupted–I mean, enlightened with the Human Growth & Development curriculum *gulp* (AKA – the birds and the bees). That was pretty much the straw that broke the camel’s back when it came to keeping any sort of composure in my classroom.
ANYWAY: I’m back.
This week has been spring break, and man, did I need it. My absolute best friends in the entire world threw me an AH-mazing bachelorette party to kick off my break from school. We went to Kansas City (unbeknownst that it was also the Big 12 basketball tournament) and made some lifelong memories. Probably one of the coolest things we did was go to a place called Blade and Timber. What started out as, “Omg this is not a real place…are we actually throwing axes at a wooden target?! How can this be safe?!” turned into, “An hour and a half was not long enough, and I am coming back here every time I go to KC.” The rest of the weekend was a mix of enjoying some great food, fancy drinks, and amazing company.
One of my main takeaways from this weekend was this: where would I be without this group of amazing women to keep me sane and stand by me throughout everything?
Yes, I absolutely adore my fiance. He’s my best friend, my soulmate, my world – but I still need my gals. There are times in your life you just need to be surrounded by your girlfriends. They showed me this past weekend that they know me too well anyway 🙂 They are my real life mermaid pod. They are strong, brave, compassionate, free-spirited, supportive, honest, determined, sassy, independent…I could go on forever. I just know I would not be the person I am today without them.
I want this blog to be that place for anyone who is looking for their own mermaid pod. A place to just hangout, connect, vent, joke around, etc. Everyone deserves their own pod to belong to. That’s why I think this blog is so important! Friends and family are everything to me, and I can’t imagine where I’d be without them. YOU! Yes, you. If you’re looking for that – you’ve found it. Don’t hesitate!
All my love, Kels
